NExUS is a community to support the play-full and care-full work of research and teaching development in STEM education. Originating as vibrant Whatsapp group and inter0connected passion projects, we are a growing group of transdisciplinary STEM education researchers and practitioners working within the margins of conventional 'academe' underpinning the context of STEM education.
In this way, our work is intended to support authentic ways of creating new kinds of stories about STEM education. Stories that view 'STEM' (in every sense of the phrase) as deeply complex and always-already exceeding conventional assumptions of time-space.
From wonder, awe, and grief,
to systemic infrastructure design
to questions of 'effectiveness'
to critical examinations of languaging,
Our community grapples with common features of learning and knowing 'STEM' in diverse contexts from a lens that centers authenticity and care--opposed to academic performativity. This may come in the form of developing research-practice partnerships with our local communities, supporting each other as we navigate different problems of practice (e.g., ranging from job markets to collaborative text selections for the classes we teacher). Ultimately, though-- because power functions in complex ways, our work is what we allow it to become -- but first and foremost, our work is to sustain a truly honest community of practice never content with the status quo.
