"I think it's really hard in these high capacity classes, to offer the same kinds of experiences we can in the senior level courses. However, getting students engaged early on in their programs, before they choose specialized, upper-level courses is important because this is when students are pivoting in their majors and emphases. This is when they're trying to decide what they want to do, and it helps them pick courses further along. As a course instructor, it's a challenge to be handed one of these huge courses, where you have to make learning happen for so many different people at once. That already throws all kinds of challenges in. Because there are so many people who each have their own unique needs, perspectives, and skills, even just doing a simple, boring activity takes more time and requires more infrastructure than it would in a small classroom. To have a whole team of people (i.e., NExUS-MS) who are all working together to make this one really important component work well has been such a treat.”
"It has been amazing to collaborate with all the folks at the zoo who work together to just give the students such a wonderful experience. [The NExUS-MS RPP Team] all are amazing and do so many things with the public, with the exhibits and now with my students as well. That's really taking on a ton of work and putting in a lot of time. There have been many students in this class (Fall 2022, BSC 201) who have come to me really excited about the types of jobs that you do, seeing what you do as potential career options for themselves. Students searching for careers often don't know where to start. However, my philosophy is that if they have a list of things they want to try and they're trying things on that list, then they are on-track to figuring the rest out. I really appreciate that you've helped them with this important journey. I think that it's clear that every single person in this team has worked so hard to make that happen, and that the students have and will continue to benefit from it greatly. So thank you.”
